GERALD ’ S ARTICHOKE
Initially emerging from a conversation following an Orbost Writers Toolbox workshop, gerald’s artichoke has evolved to become ArtsNet East Gippsland’s flagship programme for 2007/08. What is gerald’s artichoke?
gerald is a glossy, perfect bound, professionally produced and printed magazine incorporating both text and image.
Ok, so what does it do? gerald’s artichoke will create an opportunity for seeing works in print for the first time, as well as an archive of current and recent creations from all corners of the region. The magazine will be made available to the public as well as galleries, universities, libraries, writers' centres and industry representatives within East Gippsland and well beyond.
How do I become involved? 'Gerald' is currently seeking submissions from emerging and professional poets, essayists, novelists, painters, photographers, artisans, cartoonists, sculptors, video artists, illustrators (and creators of whatever you believe constitutes art and culture in the 21st century). All of the above will be considered for its first and subsequent issues. Contributions will be accepted unsolicited and will be published after being selected by an editing panel of seasoned artists in each of the fields represented.
What else do I need to know?

Melbourne Millennium Chorus 2007

- A Retrospective

Saturday August 25th 2007, 2:30 - 5:00 pm & 7:00 - 9:00 pm           BMW Edge, Federation Square, Melbourne.

Presenting outstanding songs from the past nine concerts.
The Choir will be led by the fabulous Vicki King, who has been associated with all of the MMC concerts and is a member of Akasa, Melbourne’s vocally brilliant women’s quartet. She will be assisted by Diana Clark, Tali White and Kavisha Mazzella. Songs will include Lingmara, the song that launched the MMC in 1999, Sol Negro and Melanie Shanahan’s haunting Walk With Me. The MMC is open to all. It has created some of the most beautiful choral sounds imaginable from inspired composers. The extraordinarily gifted choir leaders are to be thanked, as are the choir members.

Regional singers have been vital to the success of the MMC from the beginning. Typically, rehearsals are held in at least 6 regional centres as well as at the Abbotsford Convent. This concert will be professionally recorded as a DVD, available to all choir members as a part of the enrollment package.
We are looking for contributions for the 10th MMC souvenir program this year - anecdotes, images and interesting stories. If you have been in the MMC before and have some to share - love, hate, broken windows - or some great rehearsal photos, please email copies to us. All will be published on our website and some will be selected for the program.
You are also invited to vote on your favorite MMC songs. Download the complete list of 70 MMC songs; email us your favorite songs and contributions for the program to
mmcstories@boite.com.au.

Choir fees cover sheet music and a rehearsal CD, a specially designed long sleeve T-Shirt (costume for the concert), a copy of the souvenir program covering the first 10 years of the Millennium Chorus, a copy of the 2007 live recording DVD, a ticket to the DVD launch, annual membership to the Boite for 2007 and, finally, the opportunity to sing at a fabulous concert at one of Melbourne’s most exciting performance venues.
